Jackie Charlton

Artist Bio

Raised in Boonton Township, New Jersey, Jackie Charlton grew up attached to all things art in her creative family. Her mother was a hobby painter and taught her how to paint, and she continued learning to hone her drawing skills through art classes and camps as well as in her advanced placement art class in high school, focusing mainly on pen and ink in her later years. She currently takes adult art classes through Francesca Pelaggi to continue growing in her craft.

Jackie has been involved in artist ventures both with her family and on her own. Her drawings have recreated as prints, postcards, and stickers through her sister’s business, Killjoy Kreations. Her family has displayed pieces at the Morris County Library as well as Surreal Creamery in Morristown. She got her high school art club involved in designing and painting dog statues for Boonton’s Dog Days of Summer, a charity event for the local animal shelter. Her artwork has also been featured in zines, such as Partially Shy’s Literary Magazine and Modern Day Machines’ Beauty and Terror Celebration zine.

Artist Statement

Art is a fun way that I can experiment and push what I am capable of. I love the challenge of minute details required by drawing in pen and ink, whether its the texture of an animal’s fur or the depth of a landscape. However, I am always willing to try new things, such as exploring the way to control pigment in watercolors. While creating different textures and color combinations are fun, my favorite part of the art process is infusing personality into my works. Experimenting with different media, subjects, and styles to pull a viewer in is what I push myself to do with my art, and I can’t wait for my next big step.
