Plein Air Painting in the Park

A great day was had on:

Saturday May 1, 12:30-4 PM

Artists brought  easels, brushes and paints, and set up in Brightwood Park. and enjoyed some scenic painting time with fellow artists.  Prizes were awarded!  Thanks to Jackie Civins of Evelyn Dunn Gallery for judging.

And the winner is…! The Plein Air Painting Day and competition jointly sponsored by The Friends of Brightwood Park and the Westfield Art Association at Brightwood Park this weekend was a huge success! All paintings were described as “all worthy of prizes” by Judge Jackie Civins of Evelyn Dunn Gallery in Westfield. About 12-13 painters came to paint and a few others came to just see the park and say hello.

All agreed that Brightwood Park is a gem! We have heard positive feedback about the day. Thanks to all who helped out!

Artists came from near and far.

Heda Metiejunas of Clark was awarded first prize for her oil painting.

William Martin of Glen Gardner was awarded second prize for his oil painting.

Jocelyn Wong of Cherry Hill was awarded third prize for her watercolor painting.

All paintings were fantastic in the 2 1/2 hours allotted for the timed paint out.

Artists displayed their work in the parking lot for judging.

New friends were made, and we all enjoyed seeing Brightwood Park through these artists eyes.

Thank you to everyone who made it out! Congratulations to everyone!

The first place winner, Heda Matiejunas of Clark, a member of the Westfield Art Association, has graciously offered to donate her prize-winning painting to us to hang in our “headquarters” or to auction as a fund raiser.  She said “Today was fun.  I hope it is the beginning of a new tradition for Plein Air painting.”

“I went to the Brightwood Park in Westfield. I saw some of my friends that I haven’t saw seems the virus happened .Yesterday we talk even a little bit and feels so good. The park is so beautiful and has a very natural look , feeling so well to breath the out door breeze there. My Painting got the 3rd price award. Thanks to the Brightwood Park and the Westfield Art Association arrange this event.” Jocelyn Wong, Cherry Hill

“Had a great time painting at Brightwood Park PaintOut very serene little park. Things got off to a bit of a rough start.  I found I hadn’t clean the glass in my pochade box since my last outing, and that I had left my brushes at home. Fortunately I was able to grab some brushes from my watercolor kit and make do.  Thanks the event organizers and volunteers who were absolutely amazing and super friendly. Also thanks to the event juror for the second place award.”
William Martin, Glen Gardner
